Founder of American Muslim Democratic Caucus, First American Muslim women to be inducted to Broward County’s Women’s Hall of Fame in 2016
Ghazala Salam is an American-Muslim political activist, social justice advocate and philanthropist. She is also the founder of the American Muslim Democratic Caucus. As the president of the American Muslim Democratic Caucus she is focused on empowering her community through educational events, voter initiatives, and leadership development to create a community of equitable, knowledgeable and motivated citizens. Salam has served at the local, state and national levels in building bridges between the American Muslim Community and the community at large. She also serves as the co-chair of the Annual Florida Muslim Capitol Day, a statewide initiative to empower Florida Muslim communities and youth, to connect and have a voice in Tallahassee where policies and laws are passed. She as a progressive American Muslim and advocate for democracy, Ghazala dove headfirst and heart strong into education at a young age, engaging and mobilizing American-Muslims in politics. Ghazala celebrates diversity with the knowledge that it is the differences among us that help us come together to create and affect change. She speaks out on human rights, freedom, and the opportunity for women and girls to increase their influence around the world. She has broken through cultural, racial, and gender barriers – leading by example and promoting equality and justice for all walks of life. Ghazala Salam is the first American-Muslim woman to be inducted into Broward County's Women’s Hall of Fame. She was also awarded with Florida Commission on Status of Women Achievement Award, and Excellence in Community Service Award AI-Hikmat Institute, 2015.
