Social Media and Digital Intern

Position Description

The Social Media and Digital Intern will be responsible for the design, management and production of creative materials, both offline and online. This position works closely with the Executive Director. Successful candidates must be proactive in their approach, highly organized, with the ability to juggle multiple projects. An internship at WISE will provide the candidate with the ability to acquire various skills such as marketing, media and communication, and web infrastructure. At WISE we encourage longer term internships so that you can not only spearhead projects but also see them through implementation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Media

  • Develop a six-month social media plan for WISE and its programs
  • Design digital content for implementation on social media platforms
  • Regularly post content on all social media platforms
  • Develop, design, and format newsletters for dissemination

Web management

  • Update WISE organization website with new programmatic content
  • Add newly created profiles of Muslim women
  • Design and manage the WISE website blog
  • Add new content such as photos, video, and speaking engagements to Daisykhan.com
  • Assist in the development of on-line fundraising campaign

IT Office Infrastructure and Content Organizing

  • Organize a library of all WISE media content (videos, photos, press)
  • Upload and file content where necessary
  • IT trouble shooting and update organizations IT control book

Ideal candidate will have excellent video editing skills, ability to do basic graphic design, and have knowledge of WordPress, Wix, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office. If time permitting, candidate may get involved in developing a podcast series.

Qualifications (Required)

  • Experience with designing graphics for the web
  • Knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc.
  • Knowledge of Social media marketing & analytics
  • Experience with web updates and HTML emails
  • Video editing Experience
  • Strong knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Working knowledge of XHTML/CSS
  • Experience using a Content Management System

FUND DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Position Description

WISE seeks a highly motivated Fund Development Intern to assist in foundation and grant application research, grant writing, crafting letters to donors, and submission of grant proposals for a growing New York City-based non-profit. Successful candidates must be extremely organized, possess excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills, and be able to communicate with potential donors in a courteous, professional and respectful manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work under the direction of the Executive Director to research grant opportunities and foundations
  • Work closely with the Executive Director to write grants, craft letters to donors and submit grant proposals
  • Assist in calling or scheduling calls to potential individual donors or foundations
  • Provide administrative support as needed

GENDER AND RELIGION INTERN

Position Description

WISE seeks a highly motivated intern who is interested in the intersection between gender and religion to help write and copy-edit articles, op-eds, and academic reports for our growing organization. Successful candidates must have excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and be passionate about women’s rights and Islamic forms of feminism.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with WISE’s Executive Director and/or Program Manager to develop and write articles and op-eds
  • Research, fact-check, and edit reports and statements of the Shura Council, WISE’s global council of Muslim women scholars, activists, and specialists whose primary mission is to educate on the principles of gender equality and social, economic, and political justice in Islam, as well as challenge unjust interpretations of Islamic law and texts by offering analyses that are faithful to Islamic jurisprudence and a vision of women’s empowerment
  • Research, compose, and edit “Profiles of Extraordinary Muslim Women” for the WISE website
  • Provide administrative support as needed

LAW AND PUBLIC POLICY INTERN

Position Description

WISE has developed a major multifaceted initiative aimed at fighting violent extremism and Islamophobia in tandem called WISE Up. As we continue to roll out the five prong strategy of this campaign, WISE seeks an intern who is interested in the intersection between religion, law, and public policy, to help WISE and its partners research the rise of extremism globally, and interact with government agencies to present WISE Up to members of Congress. S/he must be highly motivated and able to juggle multiple tasks in a calm and efficient manner, and will work directly with WISE’s Executive Director and Program Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Help plan WISE Up Town Hall Dialogue Events in various U.S. cities – including coordinating with local partner organizations, press, elected officials, and the general public
  • Facilitate communication between WISE and mayors’ offices, law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and civil liberties advocates
  • Conduct research, fact-check, write and/or copy-edit press releases, op-eds, and reports
  • Provide administrative support as needed

RESEARCH AND EDITORIAL INTERN

Position Description

WISE has developed a major multifaceted initiative aimed at fighting violent extremism and Islamophobia in tandem called WISE Up. As we continue to roll out the five prong strategy of this campaign, WISE seeks a superstar intern who can help the WISE team carry forward all aspects of this exciting campaign! S/he must be highly motivated and able to juggle multiple tasks in a calm and efficient manner, and will work directly with WISE’s Executive Director and Program Manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Planning WISE Up Town Hall Dialogue Events in various U.S. cities – including coordinating with local partner organizations, press, elected officials, and the general public
  • Facilitate communication between WISE and national interfaith organizations/communities
  • Facilitate communication between WISE and mayors’ offices, law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and civil liberties advocates
  • Conduct research, fact-check, write and/or copy-edit press releases, op-eds, and reports
  • Provide administrative support as needed
