Trained as a microbiologist and experienced engineer, Aizzah Fatima has found her place breaking stereotypes and portraying the complexities of Muslim American life as a playwright and actress. Fatima has been a part of an unprecedented collaboration on the HBO series High Maintenance that worked to bring bilingual, realistic portrayals of a Muslim New York family onto the air. Her original one-woman show “Dirty Paki Lingerie” has toured in the United States, Canada, the UK, and Pakistan, and was performed at the International Theatre Festival of Turkmenistan. The comedy show includes stories of sexuality, racial profiling, bullying, and Muslim American life in both raucous and touching ways. Most recently, Fatima was commissioned by the Brooklyn Children’s Theatre to write four children’s musicals and books centering on Muslim protagonists.
